Cycle of Service
Do you love Biking?
Does the problem of poverty frustrate you?
Do you want to make a difference in your community?
What is Cycle of Service? It is an intense but fun 3 day bike ride across the state to raise awareness about poverty housing in Alabama and raise money for home repair in Lee, Macon, and Sumter counties. Is this important? In counties such as Macon and Sumter, over 35% of the population struggles with poverty. What does that mean for someone’s home? It means a leaking roof when it rains, an unsafe floor from dry rot, or maybe the need for a wheel chair ramp. But on a limited or fixed income these problems get bigger and bigger. Cycling with us helps us repair homes for these families! You can be a part of the solution to ending the cycle of poverty in Alabama! Come join this fun team and bike with us!
So what will we do?
June 24th-We will meet in Livingston, AL and stage at the Southern Sportsman Hunting Lodge. A launch dinner will be hosted by Livingston United Methodist Church with former York, AL. Mayor Ghosa speaking. We will have a time of worship and celebration with the Livingston community
June 25th-Bright and early we depart from the lodge for the longest leg, 71 miles, into Selma, Alabama. A local church will host us and feed us. We attend the Slavery and Civil War Museum that evening
June 26th-From Selma we trek into Montgomery-a bit shorter let along HWY 80. That afternoon we will serve a local family in light home repair and landscaping. Another local church will house and feed us.
June 27th- The final push will take us into Tuskegee. We will strategically arrive at 1:30 PM for a lunch and reception at Tuskegee UMC. This is a great time to invite family and friends to welcome you home.
The registration is simple and easy. Download the form, fill out, and send in with your regsitration of $50. There is an information packet with everything you need. And oh, yea-this is a fundraiser! In the packet you will find a sample letter and pledge sheet. Use these however you need to. Our goal is for each of us to raise $1200-roughly $400/day. You can do it and together with God’s help, we will help End the Cycle of Poverty!
